He was booked under several IPC section besides Information Technology Act. The charges include outraging modesty of a woman (one year of imprisonment), defamation-libel (two years of imprisonment), hacking (three years of imprisonment to which Rs. 2 lakh fine may be added to).

The arrest has been condemned by several people across the country. "Even I have received the cartoon and I cannot fathom how it can be a cyber crime. It has been made in good humour. If he can be arrested today, then who knows we may be arrested tomorrow,”  said Trinamool Congress rebel MP Kabir Suman.

The cartoon strip was based on Satyajit Ray’s Sonar Kella. In the cartoon, the discussion between Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Roybut was shown. It allegedly states a conspiracy between the two leaders as to how to sack the law maker of the party Dinesh Trivedi.(Phani)
